Ventus Documentation

Quick Start Your Website with Ventus

1. Install WordPress

First, you must have a wordpress installed on you website. If you don't have a working wordpress installation already, then you should install it before using Ventus.

If you have wordpress already installed on your website, PLEASE check if it's running the latest version and upgrade it if its not up to date.

Most web hosting companies will provide you one click wordpress installation through web hosting control panels such as cPanel, Plesk or ... but if you want to install wordpress by yourself, you can follow this tutorial on wordpress codex site or maybe doing some google search.

2. Install Ventus

Please DO NOT directly upload the .zip file that you have downloaded from Themeforest, into your WordPress website as it contains some extra items (such as this documentation and ...) and it will cause your website to stop working.

The main theme file, is a .zip file named "" which is included into the main downloaded file from Themeforest.

You can install your theme in two ways:

After you have uploaded your theme package to your website hosting (with any of the above ways), now its time to activate the theme. Simply navigate to "Appearance" -> "Themes" and click on "Activate" link from bottom of the theme thumbnail.

Activating Theme in WordPress

After finishing the installation, Ventus will ask you to install and activate some plugins which are requiired or recommended to integrate with your theme. Please install and activate all of them to complete the installation.

Install Required and Recommended Plugins

To do this, after activating the theme, you should see a notification on the admin panel. Somply click on "Begin installing plugins", select all of the plugins in the list, in "Bulk Actions" combo box, first choose "install" and click "Apply", and after installation finished, repeat this procedure but choose "Activate" from the combo box and click on "Apply" button. Thats it!

Congratulations! Your website is now empowered with Ventus!

We highly recommend you to install XML demo content which is included into your theme package. This will help you understand the theme functionalities better and have a good vision on the theme to create your own content more easily and even faster.

1. Install DEMO Content:

First download latest demo XML content from our website or use the one which is included into your downloaded theme package. Navigate to "Tools" -> "Import" and then choose "WordPress". You should install and activate the plugin if it's not installed yet. Then click on "Choose File", upload the XML content file and finally click on "Upload file and import". It might take a few moments to some minutes to complete the import process and after that, your website content should be similar to our demo website. (Just content not style. Continue reading this document to make your site look great!)

Step by step guide to import wordpress content

Please note that all of the images which are in the demo site, are not included into the package. You should use your own images or buy some good images from royalty free sites such as photodune. We recommend to buy some good images for your website as this will have a very positive impact on your website look and feel.

2. Apply Theme Options:

Once you have installed your theme, the default setting for theme options will be loaded by default into the database. But you should apply them once for the first time to make them apear on the frontend (Your Webstie). To do this, navigate to "Appearance" -> "Theme Options" and click on "save changes" button.

Save Ventus theme options for the first time

Ventus will load with default settings and it's own logo in the beginning. Of course you want to see your own logo on all pages instead of Ventus logo. To do this, simply navigate to "Appearance" -> "Theme Options" to enter into Ventus Option Panel area.

Upload logo in ventus option panel

What is Retina Logo: Some modern devices (e.g. iPhone, iPad, ...) have a higher resolution than normal screens. This will cause normal graphics to seems a bit blury on these devices. To solve this problem, you can upload 2x larger images into your website to make your site objects look very sharp and beautiful on these devices too.

If you want to import widgets setting too, please:

  1. go to "Tools > Widget Import/Export".
  2. Choose "widgets.wie" file which is in your downloaded package from ThemeForest (/demo content/widgets/widgets.wie)

Having Full Width Slider (Avoid Gray Area Around the Slider):

Ventus will put the slider in a space between menu and header bubble area and will place it in a gray area there. If you want to have a full width slider just like how our demo site is, you should edit your Homepage (or any other pages that you want to have full width slider in it, then in "Full Width Slider" metabox section, turn this feature on and save your post or page.

Full Width Sider

Please note that if you are not using a slider in these posts or pages, it's recommended to turn this option off in these pages.

Ventus is packed with powerful theme options admin panel. To customize your website with theme options, on the admin left menu, click on "Appearance" -> "Theme Options". In Ventus theme options we've used some graphical elements and descriptions to make your works easier. So you can learn more about the options and posibilities by simply surfing in "Theme Options".

In "Apprearance" -> "Theme Options" choose "Header Settings".

Header Bubble area

Ventus is an "Unlimited Sidebars" theme. It means that you can add as much custom sidebars as you like to your wordpress. let's add a few custom sidebars:

Managing Sidebars

To add / edit or remove custom sidebars, Find "Theme Options", by navigating to "Appearance" -> "Theme Options" and choose "Unlimited Sidebars" from theme options menu.

Add unlimited sidebars

If you want to add a new sidebar, simply click on blue "Add New" button. Then in the "Title" type desired sidebar title and click on "Save Changes". You've just created a new sidebar!

To edit or remove currently added custom sidebars, beside each item, there is two buttons for editing and removing. Click on the button you want and do what you want to do.

Put Content into Sidebars

To put content or the better word: widgets into sidebars, navigate to "Appearance" -> "Widgets", then drag any of the available widgets on the left side, to the available sidebars on the right side and set the settings and save it. You can edit widgets the same way.

You can choose the number of active columns of Footer Widget Zone in "Theme Options" -> "Footer Settings" and then put widgets in these sidebars by going to "Widget Page" and puting widgets in "Footer Sidebar 1 to 4".

To change theme color scheme of your website, navigate to "Appearance" -> "Theme Options" and customize:

Accent Color:

Here you can choose a color via Color Picker. That's it! Your theme colors will be changed this easily.

If you want to change fonts and size of fonts of your website, navigate to "Apearance" -> "Theme Options" and choose "Typography" tab.

Choose desired settings for website typography

Google WebFonts

Here you can choose the font of your website here. You can also set font size, line height and font style here.

As this is your main website font, we strongly recommend not to use very special fonts like handwriting fonts and do not apply special styles like italic or bold on your main font. This will reduce your content readability which will cause loss of visitors.

H1 to H6 Font size

You can also set size of headers here.

Don't choose very small font for headers (Large headers like H1 and H2) As these headers should be seen by visitors at the first sight. If you choose a very small font for these elements, you site will look so much flat without any focus points.

You should also avoid choosing very big fonts here. If you really need to put a very very very large text on your site, there are some shortcodes in Ventus which could help you make your message really stand out.

If you have followed the document to this point, your website should be up and ready to put contents in it.

Beside Posts and Pages, there are 3 other custom post types available in Ventus. But first let start by creating a new page:

One of the most important features and tools of Ventus is it's exclusive shortcode manager. It's just five steps as below:

How to use Themique Power ShortCodes

  1. In wordpress editor, click on "Power ShortCodes" icon.
  2. Then choose an element or a block which you would like to put on your webpage.
  3. Set options and put desired data in element options dialog box.
  4. Click on "Insert to Post" button.
  5. Publish your page and enjoy.

You can see live demo of these shortcodes, code samples and screen casts by visiting Ventus demo site. We have also created an individual document for "Themique Power ShortCodes" which you can find it in documentation folder of your download Ventus package.

"Visual Composer for WordPress will save you tons of time working on the site content. Now you’ll be able to create complex layouts within minutes! It’s build on top of the modern technologies – get the best for your lovely website!"

"Visual Composer" is included in "Ventus". You can create several rows and split them in some columns and put contents and elements in each column.

Our main reason that we use "Visual Composer" is to create page layout and blocks. You don't need most of it's elements as there are more compatible elements and shortcodes in "Themique Power ShortCodes" which will operate the same as visual composer's elements. Of course there is no restrictions on using visual composer elements too.

To enable visual composer, go to page or post page, click on "Visual Composer" blue button which is placed above classic wordpress editor and it will replace classic editor.

In the Visual Composer editor mode you'll have "Add element" button, which you should click or drag to the working canvas, to add content block or row to your page.

Clicking the "Add element" button will show the content element selection menu.  "Text Block" is our friend . You should choose "Text Block" to access "Themique Power ShortCodes" button in the editor. Then everything is just same as "Classic Editor" mode except than you can now put Power Shortcodes in separate blocks which are created easily with Visual Composer.

There is an individual documentation for Visual Composer in your Ventus "documentation" directory that you can read to learn more about visual composer.

You can configure default blog settings by entering in to Ventus Theme Options. You should choose "Appearance" -> "Theme Options" -> "Blog Options".

Select desired blog settings here

Default Blog Layout

You can choose default blog layout for single post view or archive page here. You can create unlimited pages with different blog layout options via Themique power shortcodes and page templates. This will only apply to default page.

Whenever you see "Default" something in Ventus theme options, it means that you can override this setting for every individuals which this setting will have any effects on them. For example in this case, you can set default setting for blog layout here but you can change this setting for each page or post separately.

Sidebar Settings

You can choose default sidebars for blog pages here. If you choose "Full Width" or "No Sidebars" option, Ventus will ignore sidebar options.

The default rule will apply here too. This means that you can change these settings for each blog post separately.

Limit Posts Excerpt Lengh

Enter number of words that you want to see in posts excerpt section. Choose less words if you've selected more columns.

To add a new blog post, follow these steps:

You can configure default portfolio archive page by entering in to Ventus Theme Options. You should choose "Appearance" -> "Theme Options" -> "Portfolio Options".

To add a new portfolio item, follow these steps:

Portfolio exclusive features

In the following sections:

Enter desired content to be shown on project page.

Well we are not magicians! MagicPosts are special custom post type which can be used in some "Themique Power ShortCodes" elements such as "Accordions", "Tabs", "Tour Sections" or "FAQ".

MagicPosts are very useful to add power of content re-usablity to your website. Currently without magicposts, you should add content of each single tab or accordion or ... in "Themique Power ShortCodes" to create a tab or accordions block.

As "Power ShortCodes" will create shortcodes in editor, if you want to update contents, you must update these shortcodes in editor which is not the best way. Instead of hardcoding shortcodes, you can enter content of these elements in MagicPosts, and then simply create a shortcode in Themique power shortcodes and choose related magicpost to make Ventus read element contents from this post.

By doing this method, Anytime you want to update content of these elements, you can easily edit related MagicPost in the wordpress interface without needing to read shortcode content.

And also, you can use this elements in several pages, without copying them from each other and even if you update content in magicpost, all of these element will get updated automatically and you don't need to update them one by one.

Don't add too many items to a magic post which will be used within "Tabs" or "Tour Sections" as it's titles will not look good anymore.

You can add your team members by using "Team Members" custom post type and putting them on your site via "Themique Power ShortCodes". Here is how.

Add a Team Member

You can repeat these steps to add more members.

How to Use it?

How to use team members on your website

  • In "Themique Power ShortCodes" choose "Post Based Elements" tab, then click on "Team Members".
  • Set desired settings into dialog box and click on "Insert to Post" button.
  • Publish page or post.

There are two ways to upgrade your theme to the latest version.

Manual Upgrade

  1. Download the latest version from ThemeForest.
  2. Make a copy from your current Ventus theme into your FTP. You will find it here:

  3. Copy the downloaded file from ThemeForest into your FTP and extract it into the above directory.
  4. Go to your admin panel, and save your theme options in “Appearance > Theme Options”.

Automatic Upgrade (You should only do the following steps once and your theme will be upgraded automatically on next versions)

  1. Download and Install Envato WordPress Toolkit plugin:

You should click on “Download Zip” button on bottom of the right sidebar.
  2. Go to the following URL and make an API key:

Please note that you should change "ImanGM" with your own username in ThemeForest.
  3. Set your ThemeForest username and API key in this plugin in your WordPress admin panel.
  4. You’ll see a message that a newer version of Ventus is available to install. Simply click on install button.
  5. Go to your admin panel, and save your theme options in “Appearance > Theme Options”.
We recommend to use the second solution as in this way, next time that release a newer version, you’ll be able to upgrade to the latest versions automatically.
Please note that if you've customized and edited your theme files (PHP files and CSS files) manually, you should make a backup before upgrading to the new version and then restore your changes line by line.
Of course changes that you've applied in Theme Options and Child Theme are safe and you won't need to worry about them.

Ventus is translation ready. Currently a beta version of Spanish translation is available and we are working on other languages such as French, Portuguese and German.

If you want to translate Ventus into your language, you can download ventus.pot file from "languages" folder of your theme directory and translate it with a program such as poedit. Then rename it to your language code (such as de_DE.po/ or fr_FR.po/ or ...) and upload it in your theme "languages" directory. Then simply change the language of your wordpress by changing "WPLANG" parameter in your "wp-config.php" file (This file is in your website root directory).

For example if you have translated your theme in Spanish and you want to change the language of your website to Spanish, update this line in wp-config.php as below:

  1. define('WPLANG', 'es_ES');
There are so many tutorials about this issue on the net so you can google it if you are not familiar with customizing wordpress config file.

We will appreciate, if you send us your translated .mo and .po files and let us put it in Ventus with your name and a link to your website on it.

We want to appreciate and thanks everyone who helped us to make this great theme for you. Specially:

We should note that we used Documenter - by to create this document for you.

This awesome theme is designed by Jaynesh ( and it's PSD and HTML versions are available on ThemeForest too
